    The difference between mold making and production process

    The mold making and production process of 2D and 3D PVC rubber patches are significantly different in terms of complexity, precision and cost.

    Mold making complexity
    2D patch mold: The mold design of 2D PVC rubber patches is relatively simple, mainly a flat structure, and does not require layering or three-dimensional processing. The main function of the mold is to shape the flat pattern and outline of the patch, and all patterns are on the same plane. 2D molds generally only require one engraving process, so the production time is short and the cost is low, which is suitable for the production of simple graphics and text logos.

    3D patch mold: The mold of 3D PVC patches is much more complicated, and usually requires layering to achieve different heights and depths. When designing a 3D mold, the height is divided in different areas of the pattern to create a three-dimensional effect during the injection molding process. This mold requires precise engraving technology and usually uses a multi-layer mold structure, so the production cycle is long and the cost is high.

    Injection molding process of 2D patches: When 2D patches are injected, a single-layer mold is used for flat injection molding. All colors and patterns are completed at the same height, and the injection molding process is simple and fast. Since there is no level change involved, the injection molding process is relatively easy to control, and the production line is stable and suitable for mass production.

    Injection molding process of 3D patches: The injection molding process of 3D patches requires different amounts of PVC materials to be injected into different areas to achieve a three-dimensional effect. This requires the injection molding machine to control the injection volume and pressure at each level, and accurately fill the various areas of different depths of the mold to ensure the clarity and consistency of the three-dimensional pattern. The injection molding process of the 3D process requires higher technical control and longer production time, which is suitable for smaller batches or high-end customized products.

    Color and pattern filling
    2D patches: The color filling of 2D patches is relatively simple, and the entire pattern is usually filled at one time, and the boundaries between different colors are directly separated by the mold. Because it is a flat design, there is no need for layered injection molding, the color boundaries are clear, and it is suitable for simple and multi-color patterns.

    3D patches: 3D patches need to be layered when filling colors. Usually, the bottom layer color is filled first, and then the surface pattern color is filled layer by layer to achieve a three-dimensional layer effect. This layered color filling requires high injection molding technology to ensure that there is no confusion between each layer of color and pattern, and finally present a three-dimensional effect.

    Mold accuracy requirements
    2D mold: Since 2D patches do not involve height changes, their mold accuracy requirements are relatively low, mainly in terms of pattern accuracy and boundary clarity. Therefore, the mold is less difficult to make and can usually be completed using conventional mold engraving equipment.

    3D mold: 3D molds require extremely high precision, and the mold must accurately depict the height of different levels to ensure the complete presentation of the three-dimensional effect. Usually, high-precision CNC equipment (such as CNC) or laser engraving equipment is required to make the mold to ensure the accuracy of every detail and avoid problems such as unclear layers or deformation.

    Production cost and time
    2D patch production cost and time: 2D patches have a simple mold and a fast injection molding process, so the overall production cost is low, the production efficiency is high, and they are suitable for mass production. For customers who require simple designs, 2D patches are a cost-effective choice.

    Production cost and time of 3D patches: The mold and injection molding process of 3D patches are more complicated, so the production cost is higher and the production cycle is longer. Since the three-dimensional pattern requires fine control, the production speed is slower, which is more suitable for small batches of high-end customized products.

    Finished product quality and consistency
    2D patches: Due to the simple process and the flat mold design, the consistency of the finished product is higher, the quality of batch-produced patches is stable, and the appearance effect is uniform.

    3D patches: Due to the need for multi-layer injection molding and color filling, each batch of 3D patches may have slight differences, especially in the transition between height and color. But after strict quality control, the three-dimensional effect and beauty of 3D patches are better.

    Applicable fields
    2D patches: More suitable for simple patterns or mass production needs, such as logos and labels of conventional products such as clothing, bags, hats, etc.

    3D patches: Suitable for scenes that require three-dimensional sense and higher brand recognition, such as high-end outdoor equipment, sports brand logos, etc., which can bring stronger visual impact and recognition effect.
